Welcome guide

Hey Friend, Welcome.

Thanks so much for choosing me to photograph this time in your life. It’s such an honor documenting real life and moments for families. I do not take the privilege lightly. I know how valuable your time and investment is. I hope that by the end of your session, you’ll see just how beautiful, hard, and yet wonderful this chapter of life you’re living really is… because it is. I can't wait to show it to you in a whole new light. <3

your family session

What are Documentary Family Photos?

Documentary family photography might sound intimidating but it's nothing more than capturing everyday moments that are second nature to us. Nothing is posed or staged, instead I attempt to creatively capture real life while it’s happening. The simple everyday moments are the ones we'll get nostalgic about in the future. How wonderful will it be to not just remember them, but have photos to go along with your memories?

how does it work?

My photo sessions are very relaxed. There's no posing or requests to smile for the camera. I’ll basically be there to chat with you, follow you around, and observe your family do your thing. Whether that be at home or a day out.

How Should I Prepare for My Session?

Preparation for a documentary session on your end is super minimal: No need to tidy the house, coordinate outfits or get your hair done. (Unless of course, you want to!)

Prepare as much or as little as you wish. Just remember that having a spotless house, matching outfits, or perfectly behaved children is (luckily!) not a prerequisite for creating beautiful memories and photographs.

We do however; live in a pretty windy and cold state! Please please dress (and make sure your children are dressed) appropriately for the weather / activity of the day.

Should we plan out our day or have an activity ready for when you come?

Great question and the answer completely depends on you and your family.

Some families know exactly what they want to be doing together or what they want captured when I come, others have a loose and flexible plan, and yet others are really okay with me just showing up and photographing what’s naturally happening when I arrive. There is no wrong answer.

The best choice for your family will depend on the ages of your children, the stage or season of life you’re in, and what you most want from our time together.

My recommendation is to think about your life and family right now, and ask yourself, “What do we do as a family? What so we enjoy doing as a family? What would I love to have a photograph of to help me remember what life is like right now?”

For example, if you’ve recently welcomed a new baby, then you may want to invite me over in the morning, when the little ones are awake, feeling rested, and to capture the slow and familiar rhythm of the day. Breakfast, playtime, diaper changes, or a walk through the neighborhood.

Perhaps your children are older and your schedules are hard to line up and you don’t have a lot of together time, but you love to all go boating on the weekends.

Find what you love or want to remember about this particular season and let’s incorporate that into your session. <3

What If my family is awkward in front of cameras?

Having a photographer around to take photos of your normal life can be and feel intimidating at first. But the longer I'm around you, the less awkward it will feel. Promise.

I wont be like the papparazzi (pushy and in your face) or a complete fly on the wall (discreet, silent, hidden). I’ll be there to chat with you, goof and laugh with you, and do everything to make you and your family 100% comfortable with my presence. Then before you know it, life will be happening and I’ll be there capturing it for you while it does.

If you have very young kids, feel free to prep them by telling them a friend will be coming over to hang out and take some pictures while you play and go about your day.

How long will our session last?

A standard session is 2 hours. By that time, your children will have grown tired of performing for my camera and you'll most likely have gotten used to me taking photos. That's where the good stuff happens... The heartfelt cuddles, the real interactions, the tantrums and everything in between.

If we're having lots of fun and you want more time, (or you feel you’d like more time to document the stories of the day) additional time can be purchased.

Friend, that’s it. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions!

I can’t wait to photograph your family. See and talk to you soon!

YOUR fresh 48 session

Your Birth Session

A birth space session is the perfect way to remember those fleeting first moments. These sessions are 100% documentary. All you do is text me when the baby arrives and I capture baby in the first 48 hours. If you deliver in a hospital, I come before discharge. If you deliver at a birth center, discharge is rather fast, so I typically meet you in your home, however depending on the time of day or night the birth is, I may be able to make it. If you deliver at home, I come to the home in the first 48 hours. I capture all the little details of the new baby, genuine interactions between family members, nursing, and all the moments in between. This session is designed to be stress free and documentary in nature. I simply observe and capture.
